LIMBO LANDER

An audio-visual performance

Premiere August 3rd 2014 in Frankfurt LAB
A production of International Music Institute Darmstadt IMD in cooperation with Wien Modern

Jagoda Szmytka – composition and conception
Ensemble Interface – music and performance

The piece is a study on the attempt of building an identity by a group of young people, whose life is temporarily suspended somewhere between the ‘real’ and the ‘virtual’.
LIMBO LANDER researches into the suspension state related to the situation of a young ensemble – a group of people who aim to perform/live/think/make something [music] together. And they all manifestly are heavily subjected to some particular circumstances – they all have to deal with distance problems [the absence of any city to settle in imposes virtual communication: chat rooms, phone talks; as a consequence, distortion and misunderstandings appear], language discrepancy [everyone comes from a different country, there is no common language to communicate, discourse must go on in a half-blurred way: some words must be displaced through sounds?], tension between the desire to build up something together and the hurtful surrender of part of oneself’s individuality in order to be an ensemble.
