BIENNALE DI VENEZIA: VERRANDO – HERVÉ

Interface debuts at Biennale Musica with two kaleidoscopic sound experiments.

A visionary theatre of sounds informs Instrumental Freak Show by Giovanni Verrando, whose research promotes a new idea of sound and lutherie: new instruments with their own grammar and aesthetic, that allow to extend the borders of sonic exploration. This concert-show is conceived in five episodes, each of which presents a specific character through a differentiated instrumental combination and style: in the words of the composer, “diversity is a powerful engine of the world”.

Instrumental Freak Show is commissioned by Ensemble Interface and funded by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.

In the second part, Interface presents another sound experiment with De Près by Jean-Luc Hervé, which engages the listener through two levels: the frontal, traditional level, with the ensemble onstage, and the immersive level, with “low-volume speakers positioned in the midst of the audience to create an echo of the instruments, whispered into the ears of the spectators”.
